The Australian Defence ministry has launched a new cyber warfare center in Canberra on Friday.
Defence Minister John Faulkner said the opening of the Cyber Security Operations Center was a major development in the nation's fight against cyber threats.
"The establishment of the Cyber Security Operations Center within the Defence Signals Directorate is a major step in meeting the government's 2009 Defence White Paper commitment to provide comprehensive understanding of the cyber threat." Faulkner said in a statement on Friday.
He said the Center is a key part of a national cyber security initiative set by government. Cyber attacks on government and critical infrastructure constitute a real threat to Australia's national interest.
